Preventive dentistry aims to prevent dental problems before they start, the existing dental problems before their condition worsens, and to detect dental and oral diseases to treat them later. The steps of preventive dentistry are often applied at the first visit of the regular visits to the dentist, and they are summarized in:
1- Radiographs:
Small picture inside the mouth
The image of the teeth and the surrounding bone tissue appears very clearly, and is used inside the mouth to detect tooth decay, the length of the roots and the surrounding bone.
– PANORAMA PHOTO
It helps the dentist not only to see the teeth and the surrounding bone, but the temporomandibular joint, the sinuses, and any apparent problems related to the previously mentioned parts, all in one image. Therefore, it prevents the problems of repeated exposure to rays using small films.
2- Comprehensive oral and dental examination:
Regular dental examination is one of the most important steps in preventive dentistry because it helps identify dental problems in their early stages
The patient needs a regular dental examination every 6 months (twice a year), but the patient may need more than twice, depending on the health of the mouth and teeth
If you do not treat dental problems early, they get worse quickly, and therefore examining the problems in their early stages reduces the possibility of complicating these problems and thus it is easier to treat them and at a lower cost also compared to if they were discovered late
After cleaning the teeth and taking the appropriate x-rays, the doctor examines the teeth separately using his tools (mirror and explorer). In the event of any problems in the teeth or gums, they are recorded and recommended for treatment in subsequent sessions.
3- Teeth cleaning and polishing:
Regular dental cleaning with brush, paste and flossing is the first line of defense against plaque, but regular dental cleaning in the clinic is one of the most important steps in maintaining dental and oral health to get rid of the plaque layer, which is the main cause for the emergence of dental caries and periodontal infections
Dental cleaning in the clinic provides a deeper cleaning of the teeth, especially the area of the necks of the teeth, which is difficult to reach the brush
We recommend regular dental cleaning in the clinic every 4-6 months
Teeth polishing is the stage that follows cleaning the teeth and helps to polish them and remove stains and pigmentation
We use the Prophy Jet polisher Rubber cup
4- Deep Scaling:
It is a deep cleaning of the teeth and gums, as calcifications and plaque are removed deeply from the teeth and under the gums
The layer of plaque and calcification increases the possibility of tooth decay and periodontal infections
Deep cleaning of the teeth is done using the ultrasonic scaler or manual scalers as needed
Deep cleaning follows what is called root planning to smooth and polish the surfaces and roots of the teeth, thus reducing the deposition of plaque and calcifications later.
We may need to use local anesthesia during the deep cleaning process
If a layer of plaque or gums is observed bleeding blood, this is evidence of gingivitis
